Malaysia’s last male Sumatran rhinoceros has died, dashing efforts to save the critically endangered species in the country.
Key points:
Iman, a female captured in 2014, is now the only rhino of her kind left in Malaysia
Wildlife experts estimate that only about 30 to 80 Sumatran rhinos remain in the world
Genetic material has been preserved for future attempts to reproduce Sumatran rhinos
The rhino, named Tam, was about 30 years old and lived at a wildlife reserve in Sabah state on Borneo island since his capture in 2008, Christina Liew, state minister for tourism, culture and environment, said in a statement.
The Sumatran rhino, the smallest species of rhinoceros, was declared extinct in the wild in Malaysia in 2015.
Iman, a female captured in 2014, is now the only surviving member of the subspecies left in the country.
Another female rhino, Puntung, died in captivity in 2017.

Hatter, I’ll look forward to the day we may freely all meet with one another, and with any life form we ever wanted to meet up close and personal! I’d love to hug Tam, he was adorable, very cute features. It will be good to swim again with the dolphins and whales….run with the cheetahs….roar with the lions….howl with the wolves….play with the dogs and puppies, pet and listen to purrs of the cats and kittens….soar with the butterflies and dragonflies….sing with songbirds! My dream list goes on and on…just to be with all the animals…be able to hug trees without being mocked or scorned.
Why do we get ridiculed for being nature lovers? This world is full of harshness and hatred. It’s gotten somewhat better, in some ways, but extremely worse in too many other ways.
I’m sorry. I’m just sad, angry, bitter, anxious..and also wishful that it’s all really gonna change…and we won’t be slaves and downtrodden…someday soon.
May Christ’s Kingdom come…and last eternally..Christ Worlds and Love without end.
